Depositor
Depositor Name: J.J. Van Wyk / L.E. Underwood
Institution: University of North Carolina Chapel Hill
Deposit Date: June 3, 1987
Depositor Notes: Species specificity note: cross-reacts with human, rat, mouse, and possibly chick; occasional difficulty neutralizing rat somatomedin due to binding protein interference. Cell binding note: demonstrated in Sertoli cells, testicular peritubular cells, brain cells, liver cells and many other cell types. Antibody competition: cross-reacts with IGF-II but not other peptide hormones. Blotting note: single band in Western blot with polyclonal Ab. Purification note: single band on PAGE with silver stain. Functional effects: promotes cell replication and differentiation in wide variety of in vitro systems. IHC note: in situ hybridization histochemistry reveals origin in mesenchymally derived tissues (Han et al., Science (1987). 236, 193-196.), but immunofluorescence shows more diffuse localization (Han et al., Pediatr. Res. (1987).
